Technological Achievements
Following the grounding of the oil tanker M/T Keymar, HSY
participated in an international bidding contest and succeeded in
bringing to the Shipyard one of the biggest and most difficult
repair jobs that have come on the international market in recent
years.
The 95.000 DWT ship was dry-docked on 35 peripheral pillars in order
to replace more than 2.200 tons of steel and the task was carried
out with a productivity of approx. 24 tons per day. The works were
completed before the agreed schedule to the full satisfaction of the
client who considered it "as to new building standards".
(P. Goodfellow, Chairman of Stelmar SA, Ship Repair Journal 5/2004)
The M/T Minerva-Alice faced serious problems with cracks in the
rudder horn and the Classification Society recommended its
replacement. Following the submission of relevant proposals HSY was
awarded the contract. The necessary works had to be performed under
preheating conditions (at 120oC) and while continuously monitoring
the alignment of the rudder horn. The works were performed on time
and to the full satisfaction of the client.
